Biography of Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was
the 16th President of the United States. He was the one who ended slavery
(slavery) in America. He was born on 14 April 1865 in a poor black family. He
led the country during the Civil War in the United States.
He ended slavery,
strengthened government and economy. He always took the side of truth and
goodness. He always supported justice in his profession of lawyer. He never
took the side of injustice. He was shot and killed.
Abraham Lincoln Birth and Initial Life:
Abraham Lincoln was
born on 12 February 1809 in Hodgesville, Kentucky. He was born in a poor
family. He studied at home. Abraham Lincoln became an advocate in Illinois.
His father's name
was Thomas and his mother's name was Nancy Hanks Lincoln. Lincoln's younger
sister was named Sarah and younger brother was Thomas. His father had to
struggle a lot for money. Abraham died when his mother was 9 years old.
After Lincoln's
mother passed away, his father remarried. The stepmother loved and guided
Lincoln like his son. From his childhood, Abraham was very fond of reading and
writing.
He loved reading
books. He used to walk miles for books. His favorite book was "The Life of
George Washington". After he turned 21, Abraham did many things.
He did many jobs
like a shopkeeper, postmaster, surveyor. He started cutting wood with an ax to
earn a living. They worked from pig-cutting to woodcutting, and also labored in
the fields.
Abraham Lincoln as a President:
Abraham Lincoln was
a member of the New Republican Party. The Republican Party wanted to abolish
slavery. His idea was to buy or sell humans as slaves and to keep them inhuman.
The entire US country was divided over slavery.
Half of the people
wanted slavery to end, while half wanted it to continue. White people in South
America wanted slaves (blacks) to work as laborers in their fields. Whites
wanted to enslave black citizens. In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected as the 16
President of America.
Abraham Lincoln Death:
On April 15, 1865,
Abraham Lincoln was shot and killed in a cinema in the US capital of Washington
DC. He was killed by noted actor John Wykes Booth when he was watching the
drama "Our American Cousin".
Interestingly, at
the time Lincoln was shot, his personal security guard John Parker was not
present with him. John Wicks Booth, who shot Lincoln, was captured 10 days
later from a farm in Virginia, where American soldiers killed him in an
encounter.
Awards and Memorial:
Lincoln's
photograph appears on US notes. The $ 5 note bears a picture of Abraham
Lincoln. In addition, there's an image of Abraham Lincoln on the American
cent/penny. many postage stamps have also been issued in his honor. He always
appears in a beard in the postage stamp. His most famous statue is built at
Mount Rushmore.
Which is known as
Lincoln Memorial. He also has a large statue built at Peterson House in
Washington DC. The Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum remain in Springfield
Illinois. His grave is built near Lincoln's house.
Abraham Lincoln Facts:
1. Abraham Lincoln
started his first business at the age of 22, but he failed in it.
2. Abraham Lincoln
contested the first time MLA at the age of 23 but he lost this election badly.
3. Abraham Lincoln
thought of doing business again at the age of 24 and started a startup but
unfortunately his business could not run as well and he faced failure in it.
4. Abraham Lincoln
contested once again at the age of 29. He had this election for the post of
speaker but he lost this election and after that he contested election at the
age of 31 but he also lost it.
5. He contested the
Senate elections twice at the age of 46 and 49 but he had to face defeat in
both elections.
6. Despite losing
consecutive elections, Abraham Lincoln did not break in and he contested once
again and this election was for the post of Vice President of America. But
unfortunately, he lost this election too.
7. After successive
failures, Abraham contested the President of the United States at the age of 51
and won it and was elected as the President of the United States on November 6,
1860.
8. Lincoln
practiced law for nearly 18 months without a degree in law.
9. Abraham
Lincoln's statue was like a wrestler and his companions used to call him a
wrestler.
10. You will be
surprised to know that Abraham Lincoln loves his pet cat very often and used to
eat at the dining table with his cat in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
